Tibial Hemimelia (TH) is not a new phenomenon among doctors in the medical orthopaedic community, however, it is quite uncommon. The available statistics indicate that it affects one in a million babies born worldwide.

There are two major bones below the knee; the tibia and the fibia. According to the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America "Tibial hemimelia is a spectrum of deformity characterized by a shortened or absent tibia and relatively unaffected fibula; duplication of the great toe may be the only clinical finding in subtle deformity"

Many doctors opt for amputation of the limb as a treatment option. With the advancement of technology patients with this condition have other treatment options available which preserve the limb, its usage and functionality.

In Jamaica where Rafael was born the treatment option of limb salvage is not yet available. So the family is on a campaign to save his leg and give Rafael the independence every child deserves.

To help Rafael please donate whatever you can and share his story to bring awareness and help other children as rare as little Rafael.

Thank you!!!
